school days
Friday, March 23, 2007 0 comments

School days are so fun and carefree, if you are a student that is. Life back then was so fun, with the company of many friends and few worries. School days for me now bear a very different meaning as a teacher. Sometimes, it feels like I am connecting well with the students, influencing them to work hard and to tone down on their rebelliousness. On other times, I wonder why I bother with uninterested students or why I bother forcing them to come for free tuition. Teachers make very nice colleagues. I will not compare them with my previous work place, but I must say that given normal human tendencies for strive, competition and politics, the school has a very pleasant working environment. Generally, I am happy with this temp job despite its ups and downs, when I feel I’m winning ground with the students and when I feel they frustrate me. =)

PS: yeah... I know... there isn't any structure in my paragraph... lol... but there isn't enough content to expand the para and I'm too lazy... And u'll probably prefer reading the gist.. =P lol....

PSS: I have only been in this school for 1 week... and I will not announce the name of the school I'm at, so dun ask.. =P

Singapore Biathlon
Saturday, March 17, 2007 0 comments

I took part in the Biathlon today, albeit without my training partner because he's down with flu. The swim start was horrible.. Akin to numerous penguins plunging into the ocean as depicted in Happy Feet.

It was really chaotic... I was swimming into the person in front of me and the people behind me were touching my feet with every stroke! Not to mention that there were people to my left and right as well.. If I slowed down to create more swimming space, I would be over taken my swimmers on my left and right. The situation was nauseating, we had barely enough space to swim and at the same time were battling the incoming waves. Technically, we could be called a swarm of swimmers... lol...

Things did get better later along the racecourse, when the swimmers were all more spaced out. However, the turning point was pretty sharp, causing a number of swimmers to go off course.

The end of the leg was only slightly better than the start. The waves pushed us towards the demarcating buoys and we had to swim at an angle against the current in order to progress in a straight path towards the swim exit.. The image below is taken by my sister who came to support me, which I am so thankful for.

End of the swim leg

The running leg of the race was fine, just that my running isn't that good and a number of people overtook me during this leg.. Hmmm... I could have done better.. lol... And I even made a friend! We were both wearing our division singlet and since we were from the same division and running around the same pace, we started chatting... lol..

Overall, its a great experience swimming and running. As for the atmosphere, I feel I prefer the SAFRA Half Marathon - livelier.. ;)

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

I am really proud to have artistic friends that I've known from secondary school. Seen below is my sec 2 classmate with our art teacher. She sold 4 of her costly designer ceramic tiles that very night! I must say that the graduates seem pretty well equipped for the working world; at their exhibition booth, they had their portfolio and name cards for potential employers and buyers.

I am most interested in the Visual Communication Arts which has graphics design and photography elements in it.. Maybe I'll read up more on digital photography and graphics design or take up their part time course on Adobe Photoshop if time permits; just for interest sake.

In toto, the trip down to NAFA was a fruitful one, giving moral support to my secondary school friend and appreciating the graphic designs and photos.

When it comes to plans or our actions, we may think that doing what God wants us to is simply too difficult or even illogical. I feel that the verse that encourages me to obey God most is Proverbs 14:12.

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."
Proverbs 14:12

God knows best; not me. What I deem as logical may not be right and may even be harmful! Since my judgement will be wrong, and since God knows what's truly best for us, our best response should be to obey. Proverbs 3 : 5-6 tells us how to live and God's promise to those who live trusting in the Lord.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3: 5-6

May we learn to hear God's voice and obey His directions. =)

half cup

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Is the cup above half empty or half full?

Most of us already know that half empty is a pessimistic view while half full is the optimistic one. But is there another view? Another dimension to the situation?

Will the cup get more empty/more full or less empty/less full?

How can I make the cup full?

What would Jesus do that I should emulate?

Juz one example for us to think about how we think and what we think of situations. Which perspective can help us improve the situation? Which is mere passive observation?

P.S Juz blogging this for fun... lol~! Btw, the jar of coke costs $14!!! I wasn't the one who ordered it though... lol...
