Singapore Biathlon
I took part in the Biathlon today, albeit without my training partner because he's down with flu. The swim start was horrible.. Akin to numerous penguins plunging into the ocean as depicted in Happy Feet.
image taken from thecia.com.au/reviews/h/happy-feet.shtmlIt was really chaotic... I was swimming into the person in front of me and the people behind me were touching my feet with every stroke! Not to mention that there were people to my left and right as well.. If I slowed down to create more swimming space, I would be over taken my swimmers on my left and right. The situation was nauseating, we had barely enough space to swim and at the same time were battling the incoming waves. Technically, we could be called a swarm of swimmers... lol...
Things did get better later along the racecourse, when the swimmers were all more spaced out. However, the turning point was pretty sharp, causing a number of swimmers to go off course.
The end of the leg was only slightly better than the start. The waves pushed us towards the demarcating buoys and we had to swim at an angle against the current in order to progress in a straight path towards the swim exit.. The image below is taken by my sister who came to support me, which I am so thankful for.
End of the swim legThe running leg of the race was fine, just that my running isn't that good and a number of people overtook me during this leg.. Hmmm... I could have done better.. lol... And I even made a friend! We were both wearing our division singlet and since we were from the same division and running around the same pace, we started chatting... lol..
Overall, its a great experience swimming and running. As for the atmosphere, I feel I prefer the SAFRA Half Marathon - livelier.. ;)
