Shifting out of hall
11 months ago or so, my room mate helped me shift 2 items to our room in NTU hall 8.
Yesterday, as I packed my stuff after spending 2 semesters in hall, I end up with the same 2 items plus an army duffel bag of stuff plus another 5 bags of barang barang!
Both my wardrobes in hall and at home are full. I have like so much notes and what-nots. As of now, I have a storage crisis and have yet to start throwing other old stuff and clothes... lolx...
After reading
Jia He's blog, I'm just glad that my room is just 1 flight of stairs above the carpark and carrying stuff to the vehicle wasn't such a chore! heh...

Shokudo
Shokudo, otherwise known as the Japanese Marche, constantly has long queues outside its restaurant at Raffles City every time I pass by its premise. Yesterday, the Nanyang Arts Fest committee went there for a treat by Yong Xi and Rene after singing for an afternoon at K box.
@ K BoxThe restaurant basically uses the same market concept as Marche. Customers are given a card each upon entry, purchase food from market like stalls using the card and pay for the credited amount in the card before leaving the restaurant. Precisely the same concept as Marche.
There are the expected Japanese food: Katsu, Sushi, etc.
Katsu Something... Ordered by someone.. heh...
SushiHowever, there are a surprising number of western dishes.
Burger. Alvin ordered from this stall...
Pizza. I shared this with my table people. Super thin crust. Nothing fantastic though.
Ice cream
Salad.
Rosti. I was having Rosti.. Quite good. Plain Rosti for $4.80. Another $4 for sausage or bacon. I thought Jia He was just taking a photo of my food! haha... Didn't know I was in the pic... heh.. And hence the strange expression... lolx
Pasta
Ice cream waffle
Creep!
And even Ice Kachang! How original...Man.... None of the above dishes are of Japanese origin! How unoriginal can they get?! The dinning concept imitates that of Marche and there's even so much western food when you expect Japanese cuisine! How authentic....
Well, some credit must be given to the restaurant since the food is moderately tasty and its prices are reasonable.
However, while there's a hype over this Japanese Marche, I also heard rumours that their staff have been seen openly adding msg into their food. I'm not sure if they added a generous amount of it but my friend totally abhors msg...
Overall, I think it's not worth the hype it's getting. I give it 3 out of 10 for originality because of the imitated dinning concept and the wide variety of non-Japanese food. Food wise, I think it's not bad, 6.5 out of 10, but definitely not worth the long queue.
Pictures compliments of Jia He.. Heh.. With him around, I never need to bring my camera out! Thanks!Labels: life
Ironman Awake
Initially Wei Siang and I planned to watch Awake together with Zack and Ying Hui. The film did seem mildly scary but sounded interesting and starred Jessica Alba - the reason for our choice.
Sadly, the movie was taken off the screens of a pathetic 6 cinemas after a short 2 weeks and is no longer available. Hence, we watched Ironman instead, the next movie on our to-watch list.
Well, I must say that Ironman was better than I expected. Somehow, I expected it to be somewhat like Transformers: nice action and machines but somewhat unsatisfying plot. However, I admit that I rather enjoyed the show!
The chief reason why I like the movie is because Ironman sought justice in a very corporate ethical issue that I found very real. This is pretty different from other superheroes that fight other evil villains, mutants, weirdos and what-nots.
In addition to that, I thought that Pepper Potts displayed a very real continuance commitment to her job as executive assistant to Ironman. To quote, she said something along the lines of "I won't quit; finding a job is difficult", or something to that effect.
Ultimately, Ironman is still a fictitious comic superhero and has abilities that are seemingly unscientific considering he engineered his gold and titanium armour. Perhaps the movie does not divulge much about the logic behind his survival and his armour, or that my understanding of science and technology is too ancient, dating back to Planck and Albert Einstein, where I left off at Junior College.
Overall, it's a great movie to watch for the action, the real potential corporate issues and to capture your imagination.
