Shokudo
Shokudo, otherwise known as the Japanese Marche, constantly has long queues outside its restaurant at Raffles City every time I pass by its premise. Yesterday, the Nanyang Arts Fest committee went there for a treat by Yong Xi and Rene after singing for an afternoon at K box.

@ K BoxThe restaurant basically uses the same market concept as Marche. Customers are given a card each upon entry, purchase food from market like stalls using the card and pay for the credited amount in the card before leaving the restaurant. Precisely the same concept as Marche.
There are the expected Japanese food: Katsu, Sushi, etc.

Katsu Something... Ordered by someone.. heh...

SushiHowever, there are a surprising number of western dishes.

Burger. Alvin ordered from this stall...

Pizza. I shared this with my table people. Super thin crust. Nothing fantastic though.

Ice cream

Salad.

Rosti. I was having Rosti.. Quite good. Plain Rosti for $4.80. Another $4 for sausage or bacon. I thought Jia He was just taking a photo of my food! haha... Didn't know I was in the pic... heh.. And hence the strange expression... lolx

Pasta

Ice cream waffle

Creep!

And even Ice Kachang! How original...Man.... None of the above dishes are of Japanese origin! How unoriginal can they get?! The dinning concept imitates that of Marche and there's even so much western food when you expect Japanese cuisine! How authentic....
Well, some credit must be given to the restaurant since the food is moderately tasty and its prices are reasonable.
However, while there's a hype over this Japanese Marche, I also heard rumours that their staff have been seen openly adding msg into their food. I'm not sure if they added a generous amount of it but my friend totally abhors msg...
Overall, I think it's not worth the hype it's getting. I give it 3 out of 10 for originality because of the imitated dinning concept and the wide variety of non-Japanese food. Food wise, I think it's not bad, 6.5 out of 10, but definitely not worth the long queue.
Pictures compliments of Jia He.. Heh.. With him around, I never need to bring my camera out! Thanks!Labels: life
